Software Company Startup

Financial statement analysis

I have thought that if you have a computer and you are building a software for somebody you already have a business. But I haven’t tried developing a whole pledge system back then. I have realized that creating a system, much more doing it as a business, is more than just the development.

There are many factors to consider if you want to start a software development but i have to point out three things which, in my opinion, i find important: the scope and duration, the system quotations and porfolio .

If you want to start software development business, you have to know how to supervise a software development, testings, installation, training and then the maintenance. It is only after a parallel testing was made and the result says that your system work can you truly claim a project is done.

You also need to set a schedule for the project in which you have to follow rigidly. There is also the budget management in which you have to monitor all the time. You have to do a financial statement analysis so that you will know how much you may profit and how much you can adjust for the client.

Your price estimiations must ensure you profit that is why it is not easy to prepare quotations. Clients are smart in pricing negotiations making it hard to quote it. But you can not limit a system’s features just so you can fit the project according to you client’s budget. You have to analyze your financial statements to see of you can lower your price.

What is important in all these venture is the development of your portfolio. The more you deliver functional software, the more you add a system to your portfolio. If you are new to this kind of business, try to create a simulation of usual systems such as the payroll system, inventory system and accounting system to present in a project proposal. It would also be a great help if you don’t start every software development from scratch.
